Series Overview

This 2 Day course is designed to support organisations to ‘grow their own’ expertise within their training department teams. The sessions are aimed at staff who will have undertaken the Masterclass which they are interested in facilitating. Day 1 of the course will therefore focus on extending the individual facilitators’ knowledge of the content they will be facilitating. This will include connecting them to Continuous Professional Development (CPD) networks and resources to ensure they are kept up to date. The course will also introduce participants to teaching and learning theories to ground their teaching and facilitation practice in an understanding of educational theories. Day 2 of the course will focus on Handling Group Dynamics and negotiating challenges of the Insider Position, this will include a number of scenario-based activities and collective exploration of approaches to manage challenges as well as enhance facilitation effectiveness.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the series, participants will be able to:

  • To develop strategies in confidence building and successful facilitation by engaging with both knowledge and skills enhancement.
  • To draw from peer-feedback following engagement in a micro-teaching session to the group and apply to future facilitation.
  • To create awareness and proactively explore approaches to respond to challenging group dynamics, disclosures and potentially difficult situations.

For rich conversations and to allow for diverse perspectives, a minimum of 5 participants is recommended for the course. A maximum of 10 participants to allow aspiring trainers an opportunity to engage in a micro-teaching session with a small group.

Short lecture style facilitation for overview and introduction, Interactive Group activities, micro-teaching session, question and answer session

Participants are encouraged to prepare a 10 minute micro-teaching session on a subject of their choice, for which they will receive peer feedback. As such participants are expected to actively participate in peer feedback.

Facilitator Handbook with session overviews, learning outcomes and reading lists for further personal development.
