Series Overview
This two-day series supports NHS managers and leaders in understanding, identifying, and responding to modern slavery in healthcare settings. Day 1 will focus on building an understanding of Modern Slavery, the Modern Slavery Act and the National Referral Mechanism (NRM). Through interactive activities and case studies, participants will be supported to recognize links between modern slavery and immigration status. Furthermore, recognising indicators of exploitation in clinical and other organisational setting and conclude by introducing person-centered and human rights-based approaches to care and response. The course will then progress to responding to Modern Slavery and leading well, with a particular focus on how to speak with potential victims using empathy, safety, and cultural sensitivity. Central to this will be exploring how to build trust and rapport with those reluctant to disclose, how to make effective referrals via safeguarding and the NRM. The series will include scenario-based learning to strengthen leadership decision-making and collaborative working across teams, safeguarding leads and external partners.
